Ethos Essential Oils is a small business based in Johor, Malaysia and Singapore.

We started with a simple goal. To source what we believe are the best quality essential oils in the world, from wherever the plant or herb variety grows best.

In addition to selling pure essential oils, we also use them to make small-batch products using natural ingredients. The products we produce from them are made with the best ingredients we can source, and are based on deep research into the science and recipes used by aromatherapists.

We believe that there is a difference between something that comes from nature, or something made with love, and one (of a million) that has rolled off the factory floor. You can feel it when you hold it. It gives you a certain energy and brings warmth into your home.

In our media-saturated, over-hyped world, it’s natural for all of us to question how we should spend our time and money, and how we can be better people and live better lives.

When you get past all the marketing hype, what does “luxury” mean now?

Perhaps it’s about knowing the provenance of the things we buy. Perhaps it’s about knowing that the money goes into the hands of the people who are passionately creating the things they love, where it’s appreciated and has meaning. Or, perhaps it’s about not filling our homes with plastics and chemicals and artificial additives, and seeking alternatives that are more natural, less wasteful and give us more pleasure.

Whatever the answer is for you, personally, thank you for choosing Ethos Essential Oils. We hope our passion brings luxury into your life.

KEEPING IT AS HONEST AS WE CAN

There is really no nice way to say this. There is a lot of misleading information (and outright lies) out there regarding Essential Oils. Stores in Singapore and Malaysia label artificial fragrant oils as essential oils (they’re NOT the same!). Multi-level marketing companies give bad medical advice and advocate unsafe practices.

It’s distressing.

Aromatherapy is a science that dates back thousands of years. There are more than 90 types of essential oil, and at Ethos we do believe the research that each has potential unique health benefits. The science of aromatherapy is that inhaling the aromas from essential oils can stimulate areas of your limbic system, which is a part of your brain that plays a role in emotions, behaviours, sense of smell and long-term memory. The limbic system also plays a role in controlling some unconscious physiological functions, such as breathing, heart rate and blood pressure.

By all means, we think that first-and-foremost you should choose the scents that speak to you. If you love peppermint or lavender, then bring them into your life. Not the nasty artificial ones, but the best pure and natural ones you can find. Scent your home, your car or your shampoo with it, if it’s what you love.

On this site we try to provide a little more information about the known qualities of the essential oil, so you can make informed decisions. Is it warming or cooling? Stimulating or calming? Is it safe for children and pets? What does it combine well with?

We try NOT to make claims that are misleading or unproven.

We can’t say that they “will” perform some medical function, because the science isn’t clear on that, but we have worked hard to formulate our products with the best wisdom available.

We believe that aromatherapy and essential oils are extremely powerful, and an excellent substitute for nasty chemicals. And they smell fantastic too. So, we will tell you what benefits they “may” have, but we will always try not to dazzle you with smoke and mirrors.

It’s hard sometimes. Spiritual capitalism seems to swirl around us, and we’re told that this mala bracelet will protect us from stress, or that pair of yoga pants will help to align our chakras. Maybe they will if you believe they will, but we think these are things you should find in objects yourself, not have sold to you.

So, where possible, we try to keep it real. We hope Ethos essential oils and products bring beauty and happiness (and all kinds of benefits) into your life, but we try where we can not to oversell them.
